P. M. Rafic Hariri discussed Middle East tensions with Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. Foreign Minister Cardinal Angelo Sodano was also present at the meetings, where he reiterated Vatican calls for a Middle East peace based on UN resolutions.

During his visit, P.M. Hariri updated Italian business delegates in Rome on his government’s efforts to revive economic growth and turn the country to a regional trade, finance and tourism center. The Prime Minister urged them to invest in Lebanon, citing positive economic indicators.
