German Ambassador Günter Rudolf Kniess wished Mr. Saadeddine Hariri success in his new political mission, ahead of parliamentary elections in Lebanon, and hailed late Prime Minister Rafic Hariri’s strong ties with Germany.

After meeting Mr. Hariri in Koreitem, Ambassador Kniess told reporters his visit aimed at getting to know the late leader’s son in person, and pointed out that the martyred leader was very well known in Germany and enjoyed strong bonds with German political leaders, adding “we want to pursue that.”

Mr. Kniess praised the “huge achievements” and progress that have been fulfilled in Lebanon in the past few months, especially as the country prepares for legislative elections, which the international community supports holding on schedule. He said the polls will help Lebanon overcome some prevailing political problems and avert economic crises.
