Head of the Future bloc in Parliament MP Saad Rafic Hariri hailed progress in the ongoing international investigation into the assassination of Prime Minister Rafic Hariri and reiterated calls on all parties in Lebanon and abroad to cooperate with the UN probe. Commenting on a news conference by Mr. Detlev Mehlis, the leader of the United Nations team that is investigating the February 14 murder, Mr. Saad said he was satisfied with the investigation into the terrorist attack that killed the late leader, MP Fuleihan and their comrades in an explosion in Beirut.

MP Hariri, in a statement, said the probe is approaching crucial findings that will help reveal the truth and serve justice. He praised the United Nations investigative team, and its leader, for their efforts to uncover the truth behind the terrorist attack, and pointed out that the German prosecutor portrayed professionalism at the news conference as he has throughout the probe.

Mr. Saad also warned against any attempts to influence the investigation, and specifically to put pressure on the Lebanese judiciary, or to pre-empt the probe by pronouncing innocent verdicts, by people in “political or official positions who have shoved themselves in the circle of suspicion.” MP Hariri highlighted the need to reveal the real killers and to sentence them according to the evidence that has been compiled by the UN team investigating the bombing attack.
