French Prime Minister Dominique De Villepin called for the full implementation of all United Nations resolutions and expressed France’s unequivocal support for Lebanese stability and independence following talks with MP Saad Rafic Hariri in New York City, where world leaders and dignitaries have been taking part in the World Summit at the United Nations headquarters.

Prime Minister De Villepin told reporters Lebanon and France enjoy strong and historic bonds, and made clear that Paris has been closely following the latest developments in Lebanon and wants them to serve Lebanese interests. He stressed that the support for Lebanon is enshrined in French diplomacy.

While calling for the implementation of all United Nations resolution, the French Premier singled out Security Council Resolution 1595, which established the international commission that is investigating the murder of Prime Minister Rafic Hariri. He also said France wants Lebanon to regain its international status.
