Head of the Future bloc in Parliament MP Saad Rafic Hariri welcomed the return of Amal and Hizbollah Ministers to Cabinet, following a walkout that lasted weeks. He said their decision to return to government ranks was a step in the right direction that curtails all attempts to harm national unity and allows the government to pursue the implementation of its policy statement, which is supported by Parliament.

MP Hariri also praised the stance of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and his latest statements that paved the way for the success of political efforts, from all sides, to end the deadlock, and reaffirm Lebanon’s position on Israeli occupation and the need for the government to pursue its agenda of tackling socio-economic challenges, and the reform program that will lay the basis for the Beirut I international donors conference. Mr. Hariri also stressed that the latest development will help put an end to the security breaches targeting Lebanese sovereignty and security, including the recent Israeli attack that killed civilian and martyr Ibrahim Raheel in South Lebanon, and the terrorist strike at an Army barracks in Beirut.

Head of the Future bloc reaffirmed the significance of the Taif Accord, as the major guarantor of political and constitutional stability for all the Lebanese, and voiced confidence that the cause of assassinated Prime Minister Rafic Hariri and all the martyrs of freedom will remain a pillar of national accord. He highlighted government decisions that have supported the international investigation into the late leader’s assassination, and the creation of an international tribunal to punish the perpetrators. Mr. Hariri made clear that this is a sincere expression of the will of all Lebanese, adding there is no alternative to cementing the democratic system and Lebanon’s national sovereignty, freedom, independence, Arabism and territorial integrity.
