Head of the Future bloc in Parliament MP Saad Rafic Hariri strongly condemned today's violence and rampage in Beirut's Achrafieh neighborhood that accompanied a largely peaceful demonstration in denunciation of blasphemous caricatures that targeted Prophet Mohammad. MP Hariri said Muslims reject such violence, which was carried out by a group of infiltrators whose goal was to harm national unity.

MP Hariri urged the government, security forces and the judiciary to firmly deal with the perpetrators who executed instructions that they had received from abroad, to fulfill non-Lebanese interests. He stressed that the sincere feelings of believers were exploited to harm Lebanese unity, the image of Lebanon and Islam. Mr. Hariri also expressed confidence that the Lebanese will overcome attempts to sow discord and live up to their responsibilities to protect unity, democracy, sovereignty and independence.
