The Head of the Future Parliamentary Bloc MP Saad Hariri reiterated that "Lebanon will witness crucial elections that would define its political future. And after what we heard and saw during the last days, we are sure that the response would be glorious on June 7."
MP Hariri asserted that March 14 Forces support the President in the face of the campaigns launched against him, pointing out that the President took national stances and he is the President of all the Lebanese according to the Constitution.
MP Hariri told popular delegations from Akroum and Denbo towns in Akkar and the logistic and popular electoral machine of the Future Movement in Akkar and Denniyeh that massive participation in the elections is necessary, stressing the importance of being humble in dealing with the people just as Martyr Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was.
MP Hariri said: "We hear a lot of talk these days against the President, as if he shouldn't exist. The Presidency should play its role. It is true that the election of the President was based on consensus, but when he became a President he had to rule according to the powers given to him whether they like it or not. President Michel Suleiman is there to stay and we support him.
They attack the President because they don't like some of his stances. But let us be frank, since day one of electing President Suleiman, the country witnessed increased stability and a revival of the Lebanese economy. Our economy is the only economy in the world that was not affected by the international monetary crisis. Last year, we witnessed a growth of 9.5% which is expected to be 6% this year and here comes the role played by the March 14 Forces to protect the country from being divided.
We elected President Michel Suleiman upon conviction and the March 14 Forces knew that we will agree and disagree with the President but that this will remain within the constitutional and democratic frame and will always be based on respect.
President Suleiman has been taking national stances, and his inaugural speech honors all the Lebanese for having him as President. They attack the President when they don't like his stances. Why do they do that? We, as March 14 Forces, Future Movement and I as Saad Hariri say that we may agree with the President or differ with him, but the Presidency should be respected.
The attack on the President and the Presidency comes within the frame of the third republic which they are promoting."
